 A brief history of MBS page 3

MBS was the flagship program for institutional development at Uniban S.A. from 1998 to 2001. Each week, the company distributes a lesson in MBS to its executives and owners. To date, 550 weekly lessons have been published as part of an uninterrupted series.

At the end of 2001, under Jaramillo’s management and with strict adherence to MBS practice, an air taxi company known as ADA was transformed into a regular secondary airline operating out of Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellín. After four successful years and with the company well positioned in the market, responsibility for its general management was turned over in February 2006 to the current owner, who has been the general manager ever since.

In October 2006, MBS was proposed as the basic tool for managing a government-owned financial institution known as Findeter (Financiera de Desarrollo Territorial).

On December, 2006 Findeter’s executives unanimously agreed to legitimize and adopt the MBSmanagement development model after personally studying its design and possible application within the organization. They also examined the contents, comments and suggestions in P.F. Drucker’s celebrated book and the conclusions reached in the Pagonis Case Study, all of which are a clear testimony to the application of management techniques which really are the heard of the MBS model developed in Medellin in the 80´s.

In October 2007, before a general survey on the usefulness of the application of MBS model, 99 % of 160 employees of the Bank, believe that the concept "helps them to improve their working performance", and feel the same way that  "improve the basic aspects of the organization” 

In the same survey, 77% of employees "perceive" that his immediate boss, appliedcomprehensively MBS.

In April 2008 the University of Antioquia  (UdeA) adopted integrally the MBS and created a Diploma, which was dictated by the School of Government and Public Politics of the Department, to all the senior officials of the central government and the decentralized entities of the Antioquia's Department. The objective was to increase the administrative and personal competences, to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness execution the development plan “Antioquia para todos, ¡Manos a la obra!” 2008 – 2011”. At press time, the UdeA has graduated more than a thousand officials from the Department of Antioquia and other public entities of the department.

In June of 2008, FINDETER received the Governmental Auditing´s final report with Integral Focus- Regular Modality, conducted by the "Internal Affairs Bureau of Colombia" upon the commercial, administrative and financial activities, during the year 2007. 

In this report, this Bureau declared FINDETER counts with a dependable "Internal Control System" and confirm the attitude and commitment of the senior executives with the business projection, which  is reflecting in the component called Environments of Control. The Office affirm:  "The component in general, shows a positive presence to the interior of the areas, based on an adequate development of ethical principles and values, commitment and support of top management.  The implementation of the MBS (Manager’s Basic Subjects) is emphasized prompted by the senior management of the entity". 

In December 2008, FINDETER was enrolled in the “Bank of Successes” of the Colombian Public Administration during the contest of the National Award for Top Management by its development of MBS as a new model for public administration.

From April 2011, the Ministry of National Defense of Colombia, through its Vice Ministry for Social and Business Group of the Defense-GSED, adopts the MBS as a basic management tool for all its business group, comprising 18 organizations, which also incorporated it as a basic language in their codes of Good Governance, development of Good Governance Policies, outlined by President Juan Manuel Santos in his program "Prosperity for all, 2010-2014".
